Texas
Texas has
laws for all hybrids of Servals, ocelots, bobcat and caracal –
as well as larger animals such as lions, gorillas and tigers.
As written, any generation of hybrid is a “dangerous wild
animal”.
Most counties
in Texas ban these animals – and therefore ownership is
illegal. In those Counties that choose to regulate, caging requirements,
insurance liability and fencing are some of the requirements.
This law was written to prevent ownership of wild x wild hybrids.
As written however, the State Department of Health concurs that
any wild x domestic is also a dangerous wild animal.
Because the
wolf is not listed as a dangerous wild animal, the wolf hybrid
is legal in the State. However, certain counties have chosen to
add wolf to their list – making the hybrid illegal or regulated
in certain counties. Check your local city or county codes.
At the time
of this writing attempts to change this law are in process by
members of Hybrid Pride.
