New York

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation regulates all indigenous species, all state and federally listed endangered/threatened species, and all species identified in the Conservation Law. We do not license any of these wildlife species as pets. Recently the New York State Legislature passed a bill which would prohibit the possession of any exotic cats and/or exotic cat hybrids as pets.

Disclaimer: Please check all local - city, county, township ordinances in your area first before getting any hybrid or exotic animal.

Alert!!!

On November 3, Governor Pataki signed into law a measure that forbids private citizens, other than those who have a federal exhibitor's license, to keep wild animals as pets. The bill also requires owners of exotic animals to pay $80 in state fees, which are to support the cost of regular inspections.

A grandfather clauses allow pets, but not to take on any others without a license.
